2026 Property Taxes

2026 PROPERTY TAXES

Payment for property taxes and the claim for Home Owner Grant (HOG) must be received on or before Wednesday, July 2, 2026 to avoid a 10% penalty.

How to pay

Payments can be made in person by cash, cheque, or debit card. After hours, cheques can be placed in the mail slot in the employee entrance of the Village office. Postmarks are not considered as date of payment or claim.

A fast and easy way to make payments is electronically through online banking:
– Payee is Village of Canal Flats (Property Tax)
– The account number is your Roll number shown on your property tax notice. Please use the last 10 digits of the number (excluding the decimal point and the 568).
– Please allow three to five business days for processing of the payment. Transaction dates are not considered as date of payment.

The Village of Canal Flats is now accepting credit cards through the secure PaySimply system (with applicable third party fees) at https://www.paysimply.ca. Search for “Canal Flats” and the account number will be your Roll Number as described above.

While the Village does not offer a payment plan for taxes, full or partial payments can be made at any time throughout the year, by using one of the payment methods listed above. Any outstanding amount on July 3, 2026, will be subject to the penalty.

If a mortgage company pays the taxes on your behalf and you qualify for the HOG, the grant must be claimed on or before July 2nd to avoid the 10% penalty.

Home Owner Grant

Eligible taxpayers must apply for their HOG through the province every year, and the deadline is July 2, 2026, to avoid the 10% penalty. Note that you are not required to make a payment in order to claim your HOG.

To claim your HOG, or for more information on eligibility and detailed instructions on how to claim, visit their website at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call 1-888-355-2700 to speak to alive agent (Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm) or use their voice recognition application 24/7.

Property Tax Deferment Program

Tax deferment is a low-interest loan program that helps qualified BC home owners pay their annual property taxes on their principal residence.

There are two tax deferment programs you may qualify for:
– Regular program (55 or older during current year, a surviving spouse of any age or a person with disabilities).
– Family with children program (if you are a parent, stepparent or financially supporting a child).

Learn more at www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/taxes/property-taxes/annual-property-tax/defer-taxes or call 1-888-355-2700

Please note that all deadlines and penalty rates are set by the Province of BC and that the Village does not have the authority to vary from these.

2026 Beach Passes

The Village Council continues to authorize one free park and launch season’s pass for all property owners within the Village who wish to use Tilley Memorial Park. Beach passes for 2026 can be picked up directly from the Village office. If you are unable to visit the office during business hours, please call us to make alternate arrangements. Passes will not be sent in the mail.

If you are a landlord, please distribute the beach pass to your tenant or contact the Village office to authorize pick up.

Your Tax Notice

The Village collects its municipal portion of the tax and collects taxes on behalf of other tax authorities (school, hospital, RDEK and others). Assessment values, as determined by BC Assessment, are used to determine the tax rates required to raise enough revenue to cover the annual operating budget with the objective of operating an efficient, well-serviced, safe and livable community.
