Canal Flats Arena hosts tournaments, encourages local skaters

Just partway through the season the Canal Flats Arena has already welcomed six eight-team tournaments from Alberta as well as a few tournaments from Kimberly and Cranbrook.

By the end of the year 16 tournaments will have been hosted at the facility.

“Our staff at the arena work very hard to host all the tournaments. These tournaments are a substantial source of revenue for the arena and a major economic driver for the Columbia valley tourism industry,” said Arena Manager Mathieu Fournier.

It’s not a surprise the arena is regularly booked, organizers frequently compliment the professionalism of staff, cleanliness and quality of ice.

In addition to providing space for out-of-town players, the arena is available for local use during public skates or through private bookings.

“We were very excited to welcome back our local elementary school in January for the first time since 2019,” Fournier said. “The Canal Flats Arena is a major asset to the Columbia Valley community.  Our staff would love to see more Canal Flats and valley residents taking advantage of the plentiful ice time we have available.”

Arena schedules are shared in the Canal Flats Connected Newsletter as well as the Village’s Facebook page.
